In furtherance to the efforts at cushioning the effect of COVID-19 pandemic, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster management and Social development, has identified 229 communities in Oyo State affected by COVID-19 pandemic to benefit from another social safety nets programme.

The initiative, under the Rapid Response Register, RRR, is targeted at low income earners in informal sector who have lost their income opportunities due to the pandemic.

Speaking at a state stakehokders’ sensitization programme in Ibadan, Oyo state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Adeniyi Farinto said the intervention which is a short term shock response measure is expected to pay every successfully captured household in the register #5,000 monthly for the period of six months.

According to Mr. Farinto, to locate the wards and communities, National Social Safety Nets Project utilised the Geographical satellite remote sensing technology to identify the communities in eight local government areas of Oyo state.

Also speaking the registration, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mrs. Foluke Adebiyi said RRR, would assist the State Government in dealing with the socio-economic effects and threats of COVID-19 pandemic.

She said the Communities were identified in Ido, Atiba, Ogbomoso South, Saki West, Iseyin, Oyo East, Irepo and Ibarapa East Local Government Areas.

The Coordinator, Oyo State Operation Coordinating Unit of National Social Safety Nets Project, Mrs. Laide Lasisi explained that, households found eligible should carefully follow SMS and USSD prompts sent on their phones.
