Residents of many communities accessing the Federal Housing Estate road in Olomore area of Abeokuta have expressed sadness that the slow pace of work by contractors handling the road construction is taking serious toll on their well-being.

The residents while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta appealed to the Ogun state government to prevail on the contractors to speed up the work to alleviate the sufferings of the road users.

A resident of Ifeododo Community, Chief Emmanuel Edun who said the contractors lacked the needed manpower and tools to deliver the project on schedule lamented that the available alternative routes had deteriorated to the level of causing constant damages to their vehicles.

Chief Edun maintained that completing the road promptly would also help to ease the lingering traffic congestion on Lafenwa and Ita Osin major roads.

Also, the Chairman of Ireakari community, Mr Remi Badmus who pointed out that residents had been put at the mercy of a handful of commercial motorcyclists daring enough to ply the roads at ridiculously high prices said the exorbitant cost of surviving under the prevailing situation had forced some residents to relocate.

Another resident, Alhaji Nojeemdin Mulero who said the residents were grateful that the state government decided to take up the road project after many years of neglect said the poor attitude of the contractors was capable of fueling communal clashes with neighbouring communities.

He alleged that some of their neighbours with fairly passable roads that could be used as alternative routes had resolved to close up their ends of the road network over the fears that the diversion of heavy traffic flow could damage the roads.

The member representing Abeokuta North constituency at Ogun state house of Assembly, Mrs Modupe Mujota had recently, during plenary at the Assembly, emphasized the need for the legislative arm of government to take steps towards addressing the poor state of the road in the interest of the people.
