Women journalist have been urged to prioritise humanitarian reportage in the face of national and global impact of conflict on the welfare and livelihood of women, children and other vulnerable groups.
The First Lady, Dr. Aisha is made the call in Abuja at the 32rd Anniversary of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists and the launch of an endowment fund for the Gril Child. 
Dr, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, represented by her daughter, Mrs. Halimah Buhari- Sherif commended the association for the fist achieved so far and urged members to extend humanitarian assistance to the nation’s growing vulnerable population through their various media platforms.
“I called on Nigerian journalists prioritise humanitarian reporting in their regular reporting and commentary due to the global impact of conflict especially on women and children who are often the worst victims. I call on all people of good will to support government by joining the global movement to assist victims of humanitarian crisis.” She said
The Miniter of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen emphasized on the need for women especially in the media profession to strive to be the best on the grounds of integrity so as to leave behind legacies for others to follow.
“as individual women holding position of authority either in the public, private or civil society space it is our personal drive and committed that makes the difference that we do. Therefore we must understand the terrain in which we have been called to serve in so as to be better informed on our actions.” She said
Delivering a lecture on the theme “Leadership with a Difference setting the pace for a better future” the vice Chancelor, Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, Professor, Umar Pate explained that the media was part of the intellectual elites and should push for issues of national integration in all sector through purposeful leadership.
“our media organisations are all on FM or we depend on the social media thereby distributing hate speech, fake news and exhibiting poverty of knowledge about our country. The consequence is we all feel bad about other people in other part of Nigeria. We need to look at the various policies we have come up with to address the issues of integration” he said
The National President Nigerian Union of Journalist, Comrade Chris Isiguzo further said the theme was a wake-up call for members of the association to take the lead in promoting the importance of girl child education to national development.
On her Part, the National president, Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Comrade Ladi Bala advised members to examine their roles with all sense of responsibility in advancing the rights of women through collective interest and patriotism.
The event which had in attendance past leadership of the association, veteran journalists, top government officials, members of NAWOJ from the 36 states and the FCT, also featured the presentation of awards to major key players in advancing the rights of women, and girls’ development.
