Parenting is a very sweet but delicate thing to do. It is a noble privilege given by God to people. It requires total dedication and commitment.

Parents are the life builders and a strong inspiration for their children. That’s why the issue of parenting shouldn’t be taken with levity hands.

Each stage of a child’s growth definitely brings a new set of features, for example, the things a sucking baby will do will differ from what a toddler will do. Likewise, what a teenager will do will differ from what an adult will do.

These children are the golden gifts and treasures from God. As a parent, the children can tend to misbehave, disobey and do the things they ought not to do. All you have to do is correct them in love, admonish them and lead them on the right path.

Children should be raised well in order to derive ultimate obedience and good sense of responsibility from them. Thus, what does obedience mean? It is a behavior in which someone does what he is asked to do without questioning the person who gives the order. Your children should be able to obey your words and orders.

For the children to be obedient and to be able to take up responsibilities, the parents must also portray those attributes.

A parent who is a drunk and fighter, should expect his child/children to exhibit similar attributes. What we portray as a parent, is what the children will watch and take note of.

Few tips you should do as a parent are the following:

Always lay good and worthy examples, that will be of positive influence to the child. Lead them by examples, by taking note of how you, as a parent, relate with people, spend and manage your resources, your lifestyle, to mention a few. Remember, our conducts and actions ring louder than our words.

Be there for the child. This has to do with both the father and mother. Spend good quality time with them, love and care for them. Always have a listening ear. Hear them out and advice them on what to do and what not to do. Never for once neglect their reasons and opinions.

Be firm but tender. Parents should be firm and tender at the same time, as you should not swerve to one side at the expense of the other. Discipline and correct them when necessary, but ultimately, correct in love.

Do not buy the obedience of your children. Some parents bribe their children in order to secure obedience from them. For example, giving them sweet, biscuit in order to make them carry out the things you command them to do. This is a negative instrument as it will only earn conditional obedience. You command the obedience and respect, you should not buy it.

Lastly, as a parent, take up your responsibilities. Make sure that the requirements of the child are met. Remember their special days and make them feel loved by celebrating or giving them gifts, no matter how little. Do not say no to everything your child asks for neither should you say yes.

The role of parenting in the life of children cannot be under-rated. We should train our children diligently and in God’s way.

The Holy Bible says, “Train up your child in the way he should go, when he grows up, he will not depart from it” .

Therefore, take your time when training them up, as they’ll bring honour to the family and become a priceless jewel to the society at large.
