The Nigeria Customs Service wants the support of citizens in checking unwholesome activities capable of putting the country’s economic policies and trade facilitation process in jeopardy.

The Controller of Customs, Ogun Area One Command, Mr Bamidele Makinde made the appeal in Abeokuta while speaking on the activities of the Command in the last two months.

The Customs Area Controller emphasized that the smuggling suppression efforts of the Command had helped in preventing a National loss of 335 million naira to suspected economic saboteurs.

Mr Makinde explained that the interception was possible through strategic deployment of Intelligence officers across the state, noting that, about 34 million naira revenue was generated by the Command during the period.

The Customs Area Controller who said the revenue was higher, compared to the ten million naira generated within the same period last year acknowledged the support of other stakeholders, especially sister security agencies, community leaders, and law-abiding residents of border communities for supporting the war against smuggling.

He listed the seizures recorded by the Command to include about seven 7,000 bags of parboiled rice, 5 luxury and smaller buses as well as Premium Motor Spirits, PMS, Cannabis Sativa, and other prohibited items.
