A 25-year-old man was suspected of attacking a kindergarten in Guangdong province in China, killing six people and injuring one.
This also triggered an outpouring of concern about violence against children at school.
Report says the attack in Lianjiang county in the southern province was a stabbing.
The suspect, with the surname Wu and from Lianjiang, had been detained by the police.
Investigation is ongoing according to Reuters.
Some media reported that both adults and children were among the victims.
Violent crime is rare in China due to strict gun laws and tight security, incidents of stabbings at pre-schools over the past few years have raised concerns about school safety.
Despite official efforts to increase security, China has seen a series of knife assaults in schools in recent years.
Two children were killed and 16 others were injured in April 2021 when a knife-wielding man entered a kindergarten in southern China.
