Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress APC in Ibadan Outer City Zone of Oyo State have called on sponsors and promoters of the orchestrated nationwide protests against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to shelve the plans and embrace peace in the overall interest of the country warning that such exercise would be counter-productive at this time.

The stakeholders drawn from Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole and Ona-Ara local governments held their quarterly meeting at the Egbeda APC Party Secretariat in New Ife Road, Ibadan on Thursday. The meeting which was the second this year reviewed the current situation within Oyo APC and the country in general.

In a Communique issued at the meeting and signed by the trio of Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe, JP, Basorun Billy Ogundele and Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, the stakeholders regretted that those who lost out during the 2023 general election had refused to move on with life as they find it difficult to place Nigeria above their ambition and interest.

“Most people were of the opinion that President Tinubu came at a critical time when Nigeria needed total rebirth and reconstruction in view of some inherent challenges which could not be tackled by the successive administrations. Even the duo of Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi, who were the presidential candidates of the PDP and Labour Party respectively, identified subsidy payment on imported petroleum products as cancer which must be removed completely.

“This was exactly what President Tinubu did that triggered inflation in the land but the good thing is that the federal government has not left anyone in doubt of its determination to solve all the problems occasioned by the subsidy removal. Within just a year, the Tinubu administration has achieved the much-desired local government autonomy and addressed the new minimum wage debacle in addition to stemming the tide of insurgency and insecurity, improving Nigeria’s relationship with foreign countries, opening up the economy to encourage direct local and foreign investment among other things.

“As a matter of fact, the hope of Nigeria emerging from the current economic challenges sooner than later is rising daily and it is on this premise that we call for more patience, understanding and support from the citizenry because we all owe Nigeria the duty to make her rise again. Therefore, it is very important for those calling for protests to shelve the idea and instead cooperate with the current administration to fix the country in no time.” The communique stated.

Meanwhile, the stakeholders expressed their sadness and regret over the recent passing of the lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Olaide Akinremi, and the State Auditor of the APC, Hon. Lukman Anwo. “It is unfortunate we lost the two assets who were good members of our great Party. We pray for the repose of their souls as we also pray for God to grant their families, associates and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.

Other Party stalwarts who attended the meeting include; Alhaji Rasaki Akilapa, Pa Sule Suara-Elegbeda, Hon. Ibrahim Bolomope, Alh. Yinka Folarin, Hon. Abiodun Adigun-Hammed, Alh. Morufu Lamolo, Barr.
