Senator representing Yobe North at the upper legislative chamber, Ahmad Lawan, has emerged the Senate President of the 9th National Assembly.

Senator Lawan defeated Senator elect representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, after the counting of ballot by the clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori.

One hundred and seven senators cast their votes, Senator Lawan polled 79 while Ndume got 28 votes.

Senator Ahmad Lawan’s victory was announced by the clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori.

Meanwhile Senator Ovie Omo-Agege clinched the seat of the Deputy Senate President with 68 votes.

Omo-Agege beat former Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu who had 37 votes.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, announced the results of the election after counting the votes.
