Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned corps members against involvement in the local politics of their host communities, engagement in cybercrime, advanced fee fraud, drug abuse and child trafficking.
The admonition is contained in his address to the corps members during the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch B stream II orientation course.
In the address which was presented by the Osun State coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Adewale Adegoke, the Director General also admonished the corps members to appreciate and respect the culture of their host communities.
He said leaning on their education and orientation, they should consciously identify what they could do to add value to their host, saying such is necessary to promote the unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.
Brigadier General Ibrahim advised them to take seriously all the skills acquired during the 3 weeks training in the Skill, Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, at the camp, so that they could be self-reliant rather than struggling for unavailable white collar jobs.
In an interview, the Osun State Coordinator, Mr. Adewale Adegoke cautioned the participants against night journeys, night parties, staying out late at night, visitation to dangerous places and acceptance of car ride from strangers.
Mr. Adegoke appealed to corps employers to provide modest comfort for them and treat them like their own children.
Some of the corps members who spoke with Radio Nigeria expressed delight at their postings and pledged to serve their father land diligently.
One of them, Miss Farida Sanni from American University, Yola Adamawa state who said being in Osun for the first time was a privilege to explore the beauty and diversity of Nigeria.
