Diligence is a major driving force for success.

This was the submission of the Wife of Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde on this year’s international day of the girl Child.

Mrs Makinde played host to female secondary school students from various schools in Oyo state at the house of Chiefs, Secretariat Ibadan.

While advising the girls, Mrs Makinde appealed to them to prioritize hard work and dedication for them to become great achievers in their chosen careers.

Mrs Makinde maintained that though the campaign for the rights of the girl Child had been on for years, all hands must be on deck to make this a reality.

The State’s Commissioner for Education, Mr Abdulraheem Abdulrahmam said girls were endowed as agents of change hence the need for them to always speak up against the ills of society such as Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage and other social vices.

He tasked them not to see themselves as weaker vessels but should be among decision-makers who were making waves in their chosen careers such as Tobi Amusan, Azeezat Oshoala and Funke Akindele among others.

The students described the program as an eye-opener for them in knowing their rights in society.

Two of them, Sukurat Adeyemi and Olusolape Uzain promised to always maintain their rights and would not abuse them.

The programme featured the presentation of gifts of laptops to the best students in the Junior West African Examination Council (WAEC), a drama presentation and a cultural dance.

This year’s theme of the international day of the girl Child is “Our time is now, Our rights and Our future.
