If Government gives holistic approach to Cardiovascular Health, it will help to reduce the disease.
A Cardiologist at Lagos Teaching Hospital and Vice President World Heart Federation, Professor Chinyere Mbakwem Stated this at an event in Ibadan
She explained that heart failure is the disease of the elderly in the developed world, while in Nigeria people in their reproductive age are being affected by Cardiovascular disease.
Professor Mbakwem, therefore, urged government to fund efforts aimed at reducing Cardiovascular disease the way it gave attention to HIV/AIDS , Under 5 Child and Mother Mortality For adults.
Professor Mbakwem also called on government to leverage on technology in addressing Cardiovascular Health to enable people, especially in rural areas get access to use of smartphones to remind patients to take drugs and send their blood pressure to health personnel without going to the hospital.
She added that by 2030 there should be reduction of Cardiovascular disease, and advised people to control their blood pressure as Hypertension remains one of the risks Factor of the disease.
