Osun State government says it has implemented a comprehensive strategy to address concerns in family planning among reproductive women in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Mr. Jola Akintola made this known at a special media interactive session to mark International Women’s Day.

The discussions at the media interaction underscored the pivotal role of family planning in advancing gender equality, women’s rights, and sustainable development.

Addressing Journalists, the Commissioner for Health, Mr. Jola Akintola explained that targeted interventions and community outreach programs had been carried out to ensure the strategy’s effectiveness.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment towards enhancing women’s health and well-being across the state. 

In a remark, the Coordinating Director, World Health Organisations, Dr. Oluwatoyin Ojediran noted that for two decades, from 2000 to 2020, Africa witnessed the Maternal mortality ratio decreased by 33 per cent while the proportion of women satisfied with modern family planning methods has increased from 47 per cent to 56 per cent in 2022.

Also speaking, the state Family Planning Coordinator, Mrs. Ololade Abatan said the government is steadfast in its dedication to women’s health emphasising the importance of comprehensive reproductive health services, including access to contraceptives, education, and healthcare resources, in empowering women to make informed choices about their bodies and futures.

As the world celebrates Women’s Day, Osun state government focuses on the theme “Inspire Inclusion: Inspire others to understand and Value Women’s Inclusion to Accept Contraceptives”.

International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8 is a global day recognising women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.
