Ogun State House of Assembly has approved the revised Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF for years 2024-2026 received through a correspondence from Governor Dapo Abiodun last week.

The approval followed a presentation of the report by the Chairman, the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation mr Musefiu Lamidi, who later moved for its adoption, seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye and supported by all the State lawmakers.

The motion for the approval of the State MTEF was moved by the Majority Leader Mr Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by Mr Yusuf Amosun and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.

 The Governor had through a correspondence last week notified the Assembly that, the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework had been revised to enable the process of planning and budgeting for year 2024 and the outer years of 2025 and 2026 continue in Earnest.

Meanwhile, the Assembly has commended Dangote Cement Factory Ibese, for fulfilling its part of obligations to the host communities by delivering the electrical materials needed to replace those damaged by its trucks, which led to power outage in the host communities.

The Speaker of the House, Mr olakunle Oluomo, who made the commendation, while responding to the presentation of the lawmaker representing Yewa North 1 State Constituency, mr Adegoke Adeyanju, also enjoined the Management of the Company to immediately begin the process of construction of trailer park near its plant to stop the indiscriminate parking of trucks on the roads in the area.

This is just as Mr Oluomo requested the company to carry out repairs or apply palliatives on roads around the company, while calling on the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure as well as local government councils to carry out palliatives on damaged portions of roads in the State.

Meanwhile, a bill seeking the integration and development of the rural and semi-urban areas in Ogun State has scaled through second reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly.

Opening debate on the bill entitled “Ogun State Rural and Semi Urban integration and development bill, 2023”, during its second reading stage, the sponsor, Mr Babatunde Tella, noted that it was meant to focus on grassroot development, reduce rural- urban migration, boost agriculture and develop the rural communities and the inhabitants.

Mr Tella explained that qualitative development required bottom-up approach, with rural areas and semi-urban as focus, while canvassing  for allocation of forty percent of resources meant for infrastructural development  to be channelled to the development of rural areas in the State.

Corroborating the Sponsor, other lawmakers including the Speaker of the house of assembly, mr Olakunle Oluomo, Minority Leader Mr Lukman Adeleye, Adebisi Oyedele, Lawal Adekunle, Oluseun Adesanya, Adegoke Adeyanju and Folawewo Salami, stated that the bill was targeted towards promoting even development in all parts of the State, as rural communities costituted over 90% part of the State.

They posited that rural communities in the State required more government’s  presence to advance development, boost food production and create more employment opportunities.
