Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, says the private sector will be actively involved in the development of sports in the country. 

Mr. Dare said this during an inspection visit to Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan as part of continuation of his visits to stadia across the country.

According to the minister, sports development needed massive support from the private sector as government could not solely handle it.

He lamented the deplorable condition of facilities at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium and at other stadia across, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to bring back the glory of the stadia.

On the issue of welfare of athletes, Mr. Dare said adequate measures such as improved training funds, health insurance and athletes’ sustenance fees were being fashioned out to make them more committed.

Radio Nigeria correspondent reports that the Southwest zonal coordinator of the Ministry, Mr. Olufemi Ajao took the Mnister round some of the facilities which included the main bowl, Indoor Sports Halls, Swimming Pool and the Basketball Court.
