The National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control NAFDAC in Ekiti State has raised alarm over the reported case of the use of paracetamol tablet to cook meat. 

State Coordinator, NAFDAC, Mr Paul Abien, who raised the alarm in a statement said that the use of paracetamol by some restaurants and caterers to soften meats and other hard food stuffs was dangerous to health. 

Mr.Abien explained that this harmful practice could result in acute health challenges such as kidney failure, damage of the liver and eventual loss of life. 

The NAFDAC Coordinator, who noted that the agency has a way of detecting unhygienic foods, said the agency would soon visit restaurants, hotels, schools with boarding facilities and fast food joints to ensure the safety of their food production. 

Mr.Abien advised members of the public to cook their meat with pressure cooker or use approved powder for cooking meats, adding that anyone jeopardizing the health of the public through the use of paracetamol for cooking would be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mr.Dayo Famosanya has promised to partner NAFDAC at ensuring effective sensitization on harmful effect of the use of Paracetamol to soften meat. 

Mr.Famosanya, who made the promise during an interview with Ekiti NAFDAC officials, said such habit should be checked to protect the health of the public.
