Cleanliness is next to godliness goes a popular maxim.

This perhaps explained why clean environment is linked to healthy living.

In fact, man, animals, plants and all living organisms require favourable environment to thrive.

As Covid-19 otherwise known as coronavirus continues to ravage the world, it is being advocated that disinfection of environmental surfaces will reduce the spread of infectious diseases.

Specialist in Fumigation, hygiene control and cleaning, Mr Oladotun Kilo explained that fumigation involve the control of pests such as vectors and other disease carrying organisms within an environment while disinfection has to do with the control of  micro-organisms such as bacteria, germs and viruses .

According to him, decontamination involves cleaning of environment already infested with virus or bacteria..

While the first two processes are preventive measures, the last one is corrective.

Mr Kilo stressed that disinfection should be carried out periodically and not only during pandemic like now.

On his part, a public analyst, Mr Simeon Oseghale pointed out that only experts should be engaged in the process to prevent harm to humans and to the environment.

He urged private school owners, churches and others who operate in public places to place premium on disinfection as the economy is being opened up.

People with respiratory illnesses were also advised to distance themselves from areas being disinfected for their safety.

The experts advised that standard operating procedure be followed in carrying out this exercise.
